Baked Apple Rose Tart


Ingredients:

For Pastry Dough
  1. All purpose flour - 2 cups
  2. Unsalted Butter - 1/4 cup
  3. Salt - 1 pinch
  4. Ice Water - 4 tablespoon

Other Ingredients
  1. Red Apple - 2
  2. Lemon juice - 1 lemon
  3. Water - 1 cup
  4. Mixed Fruit Jam - 2 tbsp
Makes 6 Apple Rose Tarts.

Preparation:
  1. Take a bowl. Add all-purpose flour and salt and mix well.
  2. Add butter to this and mix well until you get a crumbled mixture.
  3. Add 1 tablespoon each of ice water to this and mix well.
  4. Knead the dough until it becomes soft.
  5. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  6. Meanwhile cut the apple into 2 halves. Deseed the apple.
  7. Cut out thin slices of the apple (in the form of semicircles).
  8. Add lemon juice to the water. Add the apple slices to this water, so that it does not change its colour.
  9. Microwave the apple slices along with the water for 3 minutes until it turns soft.
  10. Drain out the water and cool them on a paper towel (so that the extra water gets absorbed).
  11. Take the jam in a bowl, add 1 tsp water and heat in the microwave for a minute. Remove from the oven and mix it well until the jam gets completely dissolved in water.
  12. Remove the dough from the refrigerator. Roll out the dough thinly and cut the edges to make it a perfect rectangle. Cut out pastry sheets of dimension - 8 inch long and 2 inch wide.
  13. Apply the jam mixture along the length of the pastry strip.
  14. Arrange the apple rose petals along the length of the pastry sheet by arranging the petals one on top of the other (at a distance of 1 inch from the previous petal). We can arrange upto 6 to 7 slices on a single pastry sheet. One edge of the pastry sheet has to be left free (about 1/2 inch)
  15. The petals have to be placed in such a way that half of it is visible outside the pastry sheet (the width of the pastry sheet is 2 inches; the apple slices should occupy width of one inch and the remaining 1 inch has to be left free)
  16. Now fold the remaining sheet (1 inch) along its length so as to cover the bottom of the apple slices.
  17. Start rolling the pastry sheet along with the apple slices in the middle until you reach the end. When you reach the end, use the free edge of the pastry sheet to secure the tart. Place the tart in a muffin tray. Repeat the same with the rest of the pastry sheets and apple slices.
  18. Preheat the oven to 190 degree celsius and bake the tarts for 40-45 minutes.
  19. Remove from the microwave and allow it to cool for few minutes.
  20. Sprinkle some powdered sugar on top of each of the tarts.
