Ingredients:
- Whole wheat flour - 1 cup
- Grated Coconut - 1/2 cup
- Salt - to taste
- Water - to make the crumbled mixture
You would need a Kerala Puttu Kutti to prepare this recipe.
Preparation:
- Take the wheat flour in a bowl.
- Add salt and mix well.
- Now add water little by little to make a soft crumbled mixture. Dont add more water. It should be a bread crumb consistency and not form a dough.
- In a Puttu Kutti (Puttu making vessel easily available in any supermarket or available online) add 2 cups water to the bottom vessel of the puttu maker and allow to simmer till hot.
- Place the round perforated disc with holes inside the puttu maker such that it fits well at the bottom of the mould.
- Place 1 layer of grated coconut at the bottom of the puttu maker. Slowly add about 6 tbsps of the puttu powder from a height followed by another layer of grated coconut. Again make a layer with 6 tbsps of puttu powder and finish off with 1 more layer of grated coconut on the top.
- Place the lid over the puttu mould and place the mould over the bottom vessel.
- Steam for 10 to 12 minutes until steam starts coming out from the perforated lid of the puttu mould.
Your whole wheat flour puttu is ready to be served with either black channa curry or chicken curry!!
