Puttu or “rice steamed cake” is one of Kerala’s traditional breakfast item. Kerala Puttu is usually served with Banana, pappadam, Kadala curry or even with chicken curry.
Ingredients:
- Rice flour (little coarse) - 1 cup
- Grated coconut - 1 cup
- Salt - 3/4 tsp
- Water - 1/2 cup
Preparation:
- Take the rice flour in a bowl.
- Add salt and 1/2 cup coconut and mix well.
- Now sprinkle water little by little and mix well, so that small lumps are formed. Do not pour all the water at once.
- Take the vessel for preparing puttu. Fill up the bottom with a small layer of grated coconut.
- Now add the rice flour mixture.Add another layer of grated coconut in the middle. Fill the rest of the vessel with the rice flour. Finish off with adding one more layer of grated coconut on top.
- Now steam the puttu for 7 to 10 minutes or until its done.
- Serve with either Banana and sugar or Kadala curry or Chicken curry etc.
