Ladies Finger Sambar


Ingredients 

  1. Toor dal - 1/2 cup
  2. Onion - 2
  3. Potato - 2
  4. Tomato - 2
  5. Hing - 1/4 tsp
  6. Ladies finger - 15 nos.
  7. Green chillies - 3
  8. Dry red chilli - 3
  9. Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  10. Oil - 2 tbsp
  11. Red chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
  12. Coriander powder - 1/2 tsp
  13. Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  14. Water - 2 to 3 cups
  15. Salt - to taste
  16. Sambar powder - 3 tsp

Preparation 

  1. Soak the Toor dal in water for 20 mins.
  2. Chop the onions, potato and green chillies 
  3. Pressure cook the dal along with onion, potato,  green chillies, Turmeric powder,  salt, hing and water until dal gets cooked ( almost 3 whistles)
  4. Cut the ladies finger into 1.5 inch long pieces. 
  5. Fry these pieces in oil for around 7 to 8 minutes on low flame. 
  6. Now add the red chilli powder,  coriander powder, Sambar powder,  Turmeric powder,  salt, tomato,  ladies finger to the dal mixture and pressure cook until 1 or 2 whistles. 
  7. For the seasoning, heat oil in a pan
  8. Add the mustard seeds and wait until they splutter. 
  9. Add the red chillies and fry until they turn slightly brown.
  10. Add the curry leaves and fry for few seconds. 
  11. Add the seasoning to the Sambar and serve hot with rice or Dosa.
