Ingredients:
- Green Gram - 1 cup
- Garlic cloves - 2 to 3 nos.
- Jeera powder - 1tsp
- Grated coconut - 1/2 cup
- Green chillies - 2 to 3 nos.
- Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
- Salt - to taste
Garnish:
- Coconut oil - 2 tbsp
- Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
- Curry leaves
- Dry Red chillies - 2 to 3 nos.
Preparation:
- Roast the green gram on medium flame until the roasted smell comes out and the colour starts to change.
- Crush them coarsely in a mixer, just once. DO not overdo it.
- Separate out the skin from the roasted gram using a sieve (muram in malayalam)
- Pressure cook the dal with some salt, green chilli and water until 1 or 2 whistles.
- Grind the grated coconut along with turmeric, garlic and jeera powder to a fine paste.
- Take coconut oil in a frying pan.
- Add mustard seeds and wait until it splutters.
- Add Dry red chilli and curry leaves.
- Add the cooked dal into this.
- Add the coconut paste to this and allow it to boil.
- Remove from flame when it is done.
- Serve hot with rice and papad.
